Steel Building Frame Types

Clearspan framing. Steel buildings with clearspan frames are ideal if you need large areas of unobstructed space that can't have interior columns. Clearspan framing results in columns and other framing members that are tapered. Clearspan steel buildings are typically used as factories, warehouses, gymnasiums, barns, and any type of large storage facility

Modular framing. Unlike clear-span framing, modular framing uses interior "pipe" columns to help distribute the load of the building more evenly. By doing so, modular framing helps reduce the cost of the foundation for wide buildings. Modular framing is used for large factories and other steel buildings that are over about 150 feet in width.

Single-slope framing. Single slope steel buildings have roofs that slope up from front to back and are commonly used for strip malls, and mini- or self-storage facilities. Depending on width, they may also use interior columns such as found in modular framing designs.
