Foundations For Steel Buildings
The type of foundation your steel building will need depends upon the location, land slope, soil type, building load, local building codes, and building design. Typically, there are two types of foundations that are used for steel buildings:
Slab foundation. This is a full-perimeter concrete slab that is poured all at once, and may also be reinforced to support the vertical column loads of the steel building. Cost more, but is also stronger.
Pier foundation. This type of foundation consists of separate circular, rectangular or square concrete footings that are poured where the vertical columns of the steel building will be located. Costs less, but may not be allowed due to local codes.
Before you pour: The manufacturer will send you blueprints showing the location where bolts will need to be embedded in the foundation to fasten the building.
